Discover the hidden corners of the Venetian lagoon with “Eolo”, whose name is taken from the god of the winds. This “bragozzo” a Venetian working boat, with its brown gaff-rigged sails, silently plies the lagoon amid the islands of Certosa, Mazzorbo, Torcello, Pellestrina, Chioggia, and countless others. “Eolo”, once used for fishing and now for cruising, will transport you back in time along the Brenta and Sile rivers, visiting a strip of land where wild herons nest, docking on islands that seem forgotten by time, uncovering secret monasteries, Byzantine churches and belltowers that point upward into the azure skies reminiscent of Tiepolo.
One of the last examples of the bragozzo has been brought back to life by Mauro Stoppa, a lover of the sea as well as a gourmet cook and the fortunate guest on his craft will see how his two passions go hand in hand. From river, to lagoon, to the sea as the waters flow naturally from one to another, Mauro has made the same passage: with “Il Nuovo Trionfo”, a splendid “trabaccolo”, a working boat that has already lived a rich, full life. Since the Second World War this vessel made trips up and down the Adriatic sea bringing provisions to Venice, from salted meat and fish to oil, cheese, grains and even live animals.
“Il Nuovo Trionfo” navigates in the Gulf of Venice, waterways of the Venetians and an integral part of the history of the Serenissima Republic, visiting Dalmatian coast of Istria, Croatia and Slovenia, locations rich in Venetian architecture and memories of a shared past.
