Palazzo Grassi

(FRANÇOIS PINAULT FOUNDATION)

World city of the arts, Venice is an archipelago of culture. Right in its heart, it features one of the most important Contemporary Art Centres in the world – the François Pinault Foundation, constituted by Punta della Dogana, which lies at the maritime entrance to the city facing St. Mark’s Square, and Palazzo Grassi, located on the right shore of the Canal Grande near the Accademia bridge. The two spaces, designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, write a new page in Venice’s history of art, challenging the grandeur of the ancient buildings with the creations of present-day artists and future talents. Punta della Dogana is the 17th-century triangular complex of the “Dogana del Mare” - customs house.

Constructed at the convergence of the Canal Grande and the Canale della Giudecca, it decisively points towards the future like the bow of a naval vessel bearing the symbol of Earth and Fortune. Acquired by François Pinault in 2005, Palazzo Grassi was one of the last palaces to be constructed on the Canal Grande under the Serenissima Republic. The stunning marble floor of the entrance hall, the Venetian plaster stone columns and the decorated wooden ceilings are confronted with the harmony created by the Japanese master, who designed a completely new frame for this precious treasure chest. Now Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana are opened to exclusive private events to have a unique cultural experience in Venice. The reception and services are studied with extreme care, starting from the spectacular entrance from the Canal Grande.

The private visit to the exhibition is an absolute emotion allowing you to share the visions of the artists and discover new paths of reflection and perception of the world. With their panoramic views on the Canal Grande and Piazza San Marco, the two cafés celebrate style and elegance to satisfy the most demanding tastes and offer the pleasure of entering an exclusive universe. Finally, the book and gift shops offer, beyond a collection of art books and critical essays, an original line of merchandising.
