The history of the Girelli family at the monumental complex of Villa d'Arco. The monumental complex "Villa d'Arco", known as "Villa Sagramoso Sacchetti" since the 1970s, was built in the late 16th century by Gian Giacomo d'Arco. Owned by the Girelli family from the 19th century to the late 1960s, it now has several owners and is listed by the Soprintendenza ai Beni Ambientali (environmental heritage department) as a Venetian Villa after the school of San Micheliana.
The monumental complex comprises the main villa and several other buildings, including “barchesse” (porticoed rural outbuildings), a dovecote, houses and a small church dedicated to San Giacomo, which all make it rather like an ancient village. Over the years, the complex has undergone several architectural changes, whereas inside it has been put to various uses: as a farm, a school in the 1950s, a tavern and a silkworm farm, etc. The monumental complex Villa d'Arco (Villa Sagramoso Sacchetti) is currently used as a residential area and a tourist hospitality facility with a recently opened Bed & Breakfast, farmhouse, luxury residence and residential complex.
In 2003, Roberto, one of the sons of the Girelli dynasty, and his wife Vittoria, opened a Bed & Breakfast called “Casa Villa d’Arco” in a wing of the complex he owns: www.casavilladarco.com They warmly welcome guests, allowing them to experience the places of the past situated just a short distance from the beautiful city of Verona and the splendid Valpolicella area, which is renowned for its Amarone, Valpolicella Ripasso and Recioto wines, and only minutes away from Lake Garda.
